Olivia Allison interviewed on CNBC Squawk Box Europe about the Ukranian peace negotiations , and the potential impact on markets
CNBC interviewed Olivia Allison on 18 August 2025 about the peace negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
She noted that at the outset of any negotiation, parties often begin with high demands in the expectation that compromises will be made later. She also pointed out that some Russian nationalists argue Russia’s initial demands do not go far enough, and that the country would be better served by continuing the fight. Using this as an example, she cautioned against viewing Russia’s intent as monolithic or undivided. When asked about apparent nervousness in commodities and defence markets, she reminded viewers that the peace negotiations are far from settled, and there will be continued demand for defence products even if a peace agreement is reached.
